Advice:
When I was growing up in Pittsburgh, Pa., I read about Sylvia Earle, who is a famous oceanographer. I was already interested in becoming a marine scientist, and Sylvia Earle became my hero. I thought she was amazing. Instead of just admiring her, though, I actually wrote her a letter about how I wanted to study the oceans, too. She wrote back to me (I still have the letter!) and encouraged me to pursue my dream. So I studied Marine Science, earned a Doctoral degree in Oceanography and spent my career studying the ocean- just like Sylvia Earle.
Choose heroes who are real people who’ve accomplished real things. Seek their advice. And know that if they can do it, so can you.
