Advice:
Following are a few guiding principles that have helped me through my career:
- Make a difference. An organization has to be better because you are there.
- Take risks; stand out from the crowd. You can’t steal second base with your foot planted firmly on first.
- Seek out mentors with whom you can speak openly and honestly.
- Practice the golden rule. Show others the respect, dignity and candor you’d want them to show you.
- Ask for what you want and let people know what you’re capable of. This is especially important for women, because girls aren’t socialized to toot their own horn, even today.
