Advice:
I grew up on a coffee farm on the island of Puerto Rico. Everyone in our family had chores to do in order to make the farm successful, including me. One of the chores that I was assigned when I was quite young was that I was required to read to a family friend, who was a nun, before dinner each night. I must admit that at first I was not eager for this responsibility. And, I was small and found reading difficult at first. But, my reading improved with each day, and I soon began to enjoy this time together and look forward to the worlds we visited in the books that we read. I developed a life-long love of reading, as well as a philosophy of embracing responsibility as an opportunity to learn and grow. I would advise all girls to similarly look at what can be gained when given a duty or chore that at first seems unappealing.
I still read every day, so my next piece is advice is that your readers should read every day, too. Read books, not just what is on your phone or computer, and read everything you can – literature, fiction, non-fiction. I promise that your world will expand.
