Advice:
“Get involved!”
Considering you are currently a student in high school, the best way to get involved is to participate in school Government. Most high schools have a Student Government association, and if it does not, you can take the opportunity to start one yourself!
Students who participate in a Student Government body are more likely to get involved with higher level government as in City Council, State Government or local School Board.
It is important for you to know that nothing is beyond your reach just because you are a young woman. As a female member of Congress, I have hired a female Chief of Staff, who also happens to be a Colonel in the U.S. Army.
Chiefs of Staff are usually men and I was more than happy to offer this very important role to a woman. Including myself, there are a total of four women in our D.C. office and six women in my home district office. This would not have been the same 20 years ago.
As for women like you and I who lead the way for an equal balance we need to encourage more women to strive for representation and salary in the workplace.
